Principal Biographies

  F.A Johnson Sr.

F. A. Johnson is a native of Cordele, Georgia who received his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College and pursued further studies at the Atlanta University School of Social Work and the Atlanta Law School.

After serving as Chief Operating Officer of the Atlanta Mortgage Company, the second largest minority mortgage company in the United States at that time, F. A. Johnson became president of the Harbison Development Corporation in Columbia, South Carolina. While in that position, he created a non-profit development corporation to carry out the feasibility study, planning and development of this 2,000-acre new town with a project cost of approximately $225 million on behalf of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.

During Johnson's time with Harbison, he began his close relationship with The Keenan Company, Columbia, SC, who served as development consultant and assembled land parcels. After the successful development of Harbison, F. A. Johnson and Associates was formed in 1970, and acted as the leading consultant that managed project planning for Harbison.

In 1976, F. A. Johnson & Associates opened an Atlanta office in the Peachtree Center Complex. He specialized in neighborhood redevelopment, organizing 501(c)(3) entrepreneurial development corporations, loan packaging, and development packaging of projects on behalf of city and county governments with emphasis on cooperative ventures with in-town and neighborhood groups. Today, Johnson is recognized as an expert in the procurement of 501(c)(3) status for clientele.

In 1981, F. A. Johnson & Associates became F. A. Johnson Interest. While maintaining his Atlanta location, he broadened his base of operation by becoming Director of Advisory Services for The Keenan Company. From these associated business relationships has emerged The F. A. Johnson Consulting Group, Inc.(FAJC).

Johnson’s track record in working with Community Based Development Corporations and structuring Public/Private Partnerships have led to an excellent reputation within the industry for completing projects on time and within budget. His commitment to quality only serves to enhance FAJC’s commitment to providing the highest level of service to its clients.

  F.A Johnson II, Esq.

Fred A. Johnson, II is the Managing Principal of the F.A. JOHNSON CONSULTING GROUP, INC. (“FAJC”). He is responsible for the direct management and oversight of over $25.4 Million Dollars in investment in the development of commercial, public facilities, and residential community and economic development projects in the City of Columbia. These projects include the North Main Plaza, Farrow Road Galleria (a grocery anchored shopping center), Farrow Road Life Resource Center, and twenty-one units of single family housing on the former Burton School property. In addition to those projects, on behalf of the East Central City Consortium, he is coordinating the creation of a master plan and specific catalyst sites for the development of affordable housing in twelve of Columbia’s inner-city neighborhoods covering over 1,000 acres. As legal counsel to the DORIC REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, Fred is initiating a Residential Planned Unit Development (PUD) for a Neo-Traditional cluster of single-family housing development in the historic Arsenal Hill neighborhood in the Vista.

Fred was recognized by The State Newspaper’s Columbia Business Journal as a member of the 2004 inaugural class of 20 business leaders under 40. Fred remains active in the community by serving on the Board and Executive Committee the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Greater Columbia, and the Board of Leadership Columbia. He regularly provides pro-bono legal assistance to the National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer and other local fledgling non-profit corporations. He is a graduate of the 2004 Leadership Columbia Program of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and previously served on Governor Hodges’ Affordable Housing Task Force. He received a Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a licensed member of the Bar in Georgia and South Carolina. He is a Cum Laude graduate of Morehouse College and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Banking and Finance.

From 1998 to 2000, Johnson, was Director of Development for THE ROANOKE REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY (“RRHA”). After preparing and securing a $15.1 Million Dollar HOPE VI grant, he was responsible for all new construction activities. Fred served as project manager for the declaration of the 79-acre South Jefferson Redevelopment Area, an inner city site being redeveloped as a biomedical complex. Johnson handled the $10 Million Dollar financing for the adaptive reuse of a 122,000-sq. ft. office building into 87 luxury downtown apartments using Historic Tax Credits and a HUD 221(d)(4) insured loan. Additional responsibilities included a Neighborhood Homeownership Opportunities Program, administering $1,600,000 annually in CDBG/HOME funds and doubling loan volume in the Rehabilitation Loan Program.

From 1995 to 1998, Fred operated the Augusta office of FAJC and developed a transactional legal practice focused on business law, real property law, and the representation of non-profits and housing organizations in the areas of legal and business planning, and organizing new 501(c) (3) Corporations. He concentrated on affordable housing law and has considerable experience in all aspects of real estate finance. Mr. Johnson has served as legal counsel to 501(c)(3) organizations such as the Laney Walker Development Corporation, which was designated by the City of Augusta as a CHODO, and the Orangeburg Community Development Corporation.

In 1990, Johnson joined the Commercial Loan Officer training program at COMERICA BANK in Detroit, Michigan. He managed a $30 Million Dollar middle market loan portfolio. In the Commercial Real Estate Loan Group, he placed construction and interim financing for various projects including proposed condominium developments, retail strip centers, and industrial projects. He also worked for the pension giant, TEACHERS INSURANCE AND ANNUITY ASSOCIATION, where he made recommendations to senior management regarding asset retention and disposition.
